About CTE

Hands-On Experience, Real-World Training

Through the Canaan Technical Center, Canaan Schools offers students a number of programs and pathways that lead to jobs in some of today’s most sought after fields, and to enrollment at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Studies have shown that high schools with career and technical education centers on the same campus create numerous opportunities for students to prepare for college while also exploring careers in manufacturing, business, agriculture, and the trades.

CTE is a learning approach that involves hands-on, real-world training in a variety of career paths and concentrations. Today’s CTE Centers are helping our nation meet its real and immediate challenges of economic development, student achievement, and global competitiveness while helping students gain the skills, technical and academic knowledge, and real-world experience they need to prepare for high skill, high demand, and high wage careers.

CTE students are also supported in developing Peer Learning Plans, attaining Proficiency Based Graduation Requirements, and preparing for post-secondary education. Additionally, students have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized credentials, college credits through the Dual Enrollment initiative, and professional work or internship-based learning experience.
